What To Do In Manchester

Running

So you have just signed up for our Manchester MoRun and want to make a weekend out of it. It is a beautiful city with lots to keep you entertained. Here are a few examples of things you could get up to:

Take a visit to the Manchester Cathedral, which has been centre stage in te city’s history for nearly 600 years. These walls have survived many wars and bombings, including Henry VIII’s reformation and the industrial revolution. Do not miss one of the most interesting churches in the land.

A venue not to miss that was used in the 2002 Commonwealth Games is the Manchester Arena. It has the highest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the UK, with the ability to hold 21,000! It is an amazing place to catch some live music or sport, if you are lucky enough to be there at the right time, but make sure to book well in advance.

For anyone wanting to get a bit more in depth history on the city should visit the Manchester Museum. It displays works of archaeology, anthropology and natural history with about 4.5 million items and has around 360,000 visitors a year! Make sure you are one of those!

Manchester is home to the second largest Chinatown in the UK and third largest in Europe. There is something here for all the family from shops, bakeries and restaurants galore!

For those just wanting to relax and celebrate with a bit of food and drink in the sunshine (fingers crossed), there are a fantastic range of Pubs and Restaurants, including the Ape and AppleCain and GrainFairfield ArmsOld Wellington and Port Street Beer House

Last but not least, of course for anybody interested in sport, there is something for everybody. There are a number of Stadiums to visit, including, Etihad (Manchester City)AJ Bell (Sale Sharks), DW Stadium (Wigan Warriors) and of course, Old Trafford (home of Manchester United) which is the largest in the UK with a capacity of over 75,000.

One high recommendation would be to try and visit the Manchester Velodrome.  It is the home of Bristish Cycling and if you can book yourself in for a session on the indoor track. A truly unforgettable experience!

Whatever you do, we hope you have a fantastic time and enjoy your visit to this beautiful part of the UK.
