This year is the 23rd Varsity Triathlon. Oxford University Triathlon Club and Cambridge University Triathlon Club have raced each other at Varsity Triathlon since 2003, where the inaugural event was held in Mansfield.
Since 2018, the event has been held at Eton Dorney as part of the All Nations Triathlon, and the overall Blues head-to-head stands at 25 – 19 to Oxford.
This year marks the 25th Anniversary for both clubs, following the creation of both clubs in the wake of the debut of the sport at the 2000 Olympics.
On 9th May, both clubs will line up to compete for six competitions. The Men’s and Women’s Blues matches will be determined by the first 6 finishers of each category from each university. The Men’s and Women’s Seconds will be determined by the 7th, 8th and 9th from each. The Men’s and Women’s Mob Matches will then be determined by pairing off remaining athletes, until one university runs out of athletes.
The current holders of the Women’s Blues title is Cambridge, while Oxford hold all 5 other titles from 2025. Following Varsity Duathlon in February, where Cambridge won two matches, the Men’s Blues and the Women’s Seconds, it will be interesting to see the scoreline this year.
