Inspiration
By James Page
3 years ago I could not run for 5 minutes without my knees giving way and causing extreme pain so I saw a physio, started to train right, stopped drinking alcohol, entered small races and built the intensity and managed to complete races I'd never have dreamed possible (I’ve listed them below).I started to raise money for the British heart foundation and managed to raise nearly £3500.
I then decided to try and raise as much awareness/money for “Children With Cancer UK” as possible after both my parents were diagnosed with Cancer within 18 months of each other and couldn’t imagine what it would be like for my children to go through what they had.
I decided to take on the Marathon Des Sables known as the toughest race on Earth. A 6 day Ultra marathon through the Sahara desert, I will have to be totally self sufficient carrying all my Food, clothes, survival kit and sleeping bag for the week. With temperatures that can reach 50degrees, thousands of feet of elevation through sand dunes and Jebels(mountains) this will be my toughest challenge yet. Also when I get back to the UK I will be running the London Marathon 2 weeks later in my full desert kit.
Sometimes it’s a bit of a struggle fitting training around family (11 year old son Oliver, 1 year old daughter Evie, Wife Jodie) and a full time job but it makes it so much easier knowing I’m raising money for this great charity.
